Seeing off young achievers as they set out in the world to make their mark is a unique occasion. Last week, I was at the Guru Nanak College of Nursing, Dahan Kaleran, where I had the honour of delivering the Convocation Address to the graduates. It was a pleasure to meet them and hand out their degrees, as well as to listen to the writer Arvinder Kaur Dhaliwal speak on the relationship between literature and health.
The institution is the result of the vision of Budh Singh Dahan and Kashmir Kaur, the couple from Canada who wanted to bring education and health to this area. Now their son, Barjinder Singh, plays an active role, along with Kulvinder Singh, the Trust president and his team.
The enthusiasm of the graduates and the students was infectious. The proud smiles on the faces of the graduates' parents said it all. Seeing the transformation that good direction and education bring out in society at the macro-level, one came back full of positivity.
